Pro jey:

Z powertop reportu to vypadá, že “Processor Idle state” máte max. C2, což moc energie neuspoří. Dle datashetu by Vaše CPU mělo podporovat C6 deep sleep, tedy v powertop reportu by se mělo objevovat alespoň C3 nebo C4 (C6 někdy ACPI firmware mapuje na C3/C4). Zkuste projít nastavení BIOS, bývá tam Intel C-State / CPU idle set to C2/C3/C4 nebo něco podobného týkající se power management, zkuste nastavit vše na max.

Taktéž lze nastavit power management u radeon, v případě použití defaultního ovladače z Fedory:
auto režim (je úspornější než default)

echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method

echo auto > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

nebo dynamický reclock (úspornější, ale může způsobit blikání):

echo dynpm > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method

nebo ručně nejúspornější (a nejpomalejší):

echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method

echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

Priznam se ze tato oblast neni zrovna moje parketa, ale rekl bych, ze CPU je OK a je 78% casu v idle, takze tim to neni. Zato vsechna zarizeni na PCI sbernici jsou 100% napajena naplno.
Nevim zda je PC interne PCIe ale k tomu ma slouzit ona volba pcie_aspm, jen se domnivam ze tim se ASPM jen zapne a pak se musi jeste tusim pres nejaky /sys nastavit na “save”.

Příkazy “# echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method” a "# echo auto > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile " zabraly.

yarda je rozhodne spravna osoba, takze ten C state bych taky pohledal. Timto si zrejme zapnul power management pro grafickou kartu. Treba jeste pujde neco usetrit na CPU. Jinak nezapomen, ze tato nastavani musis provest vzdy po startu systemu, takze je potreba je nekam zapsat. Driv se na takove veci pouzival /etc/rc.d/rc.local…

Jj, na výpisu se už ukazuje C3 (u Proccesor Idle state report) :). Máte tip na vyřešení toho problému s pcie?

Do “tuned” bude podpora pro automatické nastavení PM u radeon přidána ve Fedora 17, pak to půjde aktivovat nastavením “tuned” power save profilu (zůstane aktivní i po rebootu), např. pomocí:

tuned-adm profile laptop-battery-powersave

Pokud je aktivováno ASPM, aktuální policy lze zjistit pomocí:

cat /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy

“default” znamená nastavení policy z BIOSu. AFAIK pokud jste v BIOSu nastavil max powersave, mělo by být “default” shodné s “powersave”. Nicméně lze overridnout na “powersave” pomocí:

echo powersave > /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy

Jen pro zajímavost, jak to vypadá nyní v porovnání s Win 7?

Když nastavím podsvícení na minimum + ten powersave, tak to vychází na necelé 3 hodiny. Ve WIn7 se to drží na necelých 5 hodinách.

V připadě, že powertop nebyl na systému nainstalován, tak použijte misto “yum upgrade” “yum install”, potom:

powertop --html

Jako root zadejte příkazy uvedené na konci vygenerovaného dokumentu powertop.html v sekci “Software settings in need of tuning”. Raději nezapínejte USB autosuspend pro USB myš a klávesnici, mohly by přestat fungovat. Výdrž by se pak měla ještě trochu zlepšit. Provedené změny budou aktivní do rebootu (ve Fedora 17 bude možnost udělat tyto změny persistentní).

K distribuční verzi powertop se pak můžete vrátit pomocí:

yum distro-sync powertop

Je v plánu vývoj nějakého grafického toolu pro nastavování všech těchto parametrů souvisejících se zde diskutovaným “power tunning-em”, respektivě rozšíření existujícího toolu v “settings”? (nemám teď po ruce F16/17, takže nevím, jak se současný tool přesně jmenuje - snad “Power management preferencies”?)
Nemám nic proti spouštění příkazů a konfiguraci příslušných souborů, ale když se tato nastavení snažím vysvětlit běžným uživatelům / novým zájemcům o Linux, zpravidla se (a z pochopitelných důvodů) nesetkám s velkým ohlasem :slight_smile:

Od Fedory 17 bude mít “tuned” dbus interface, takže bude připraven na větší integraci s desktopem. Taktéž bude spolupracovat s nástrojem powertop a z jeho analýzy bude možné automaticky vytvářet uživatelské profily. Plánujeme i desktopově nezávislé GUI (nebude však dříve jak ve Fedora 18). Podporu bychom chtěli prosadit i do Gnome (aby si uživatel mohl v nastavení zvolit požadovaný profil podobně jako např. ve Windows), ale nejsme Gnome vývojáři, takže v tomto směru nemohu nic slibovat.

Bloumam ted na podobnym problemem ovsem na AMD E-350, coz je trochu jina platforma. V BIOSu jsem nastavil procesor az na C6, ale k dispozici je porad jen C1 a C2, graficka karta presto, ze to je radeon, tak nema nic jako /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method. Nejak nevim moc co s tim jineho…

Dle dostupných informací E-350 podporuje stav C6. Nicméně jádro u procesorů AMD spoléhá na ACPI tabulky. Některé desky/BIOSy však tyto tabulky nenastavují korektně. Někdy je uvedeno C2, ale ve skutečnosti je aktivní C3 nebo vyšší. U některých notebooků ACPI zpřístupní vyšší C stavy jen při napájení z baterie. Někdy je pro korektní funkci nutný update BIOSu. AFAIK jediná spolehlivá možnost jak ověřit, že C6 skutečně funguje, je pomocí wattmetru. Při aktivním C6 (zapnutí v BIOSu) by u E-350 měl v klidu příkon klesnout o cca 1 W nebo více.

U grafiky nevím, měla by to být evergreen family, takže pokud má korektně definované power states v VBIOS, tak by to fungovat mělo. Je nutné mít aktivní KMS (mělo by být implicitně). Zajímal by mě dmesg, třeba tam něco bude.

Je dost dlouhy, tak jsem ustrihl jen zacatek nez zacne detekce disku a periferii, a pak jsem pridal jeste nasel neco o powernow. Zajimave je i to ze podle monitoringu napajeni deska neustale cvici s Vcore od nejakych 0.5 do 1.25V v nekolika krocich.

Vypadá to, že není DRM a bez něj power management u radeonu nepůjde. Mělo by to vypadat nějak takto (je to pro stroj s r100 radeonem, e-350/hd6310 bohužel nemám nikde k dispozici, AFAIK by se měl hlásit jako Evergreen, t.j. Loading Evergreen Microcode):

Zajimave je i to ze podle monitoringu napajeni deska neustale cvici s Vcore od nejakych 0.5 do 1.25V v nekolika krocich.

AFAIK to by mělo být OK, řídí to powernow-k8 dle zátěže CPU pro úsporu energie, dá se to vypnout v BIOSu.

Aha zajimave, netusil jsem, ze aby fungoval power management musi byt povolene KMS, nejak mi to v tom minulem prispevku uniklo. Mam ho vypnute. Zkusim prilezitostni zapnout.

S tím C6 jsou u AMD problémy. Ověřil bych, zda je aktivní pomocí jakéhokoliv energy monitoru z hypermarketu. Při aktivaci v BIOSu by měl příkon v klidu u E-350 poklesnout min. o 1 W. Pokud to tak bude, tak bych to dál neřešil, protože pro správné reportování C stavů by to vyžadovalo patchnout a overridnout ACPI tables, což by za to úsilí asi nestálo.

O 1W to lita uz jen chybou meraku, to asi nezjistim. Se 600W ATX zdrojem 85+ jsem se dostal na spotrebu nejakych 26W, tzn. nejakych 22W E-250. Melo by to byt udajne (TDP) 18W, ale jednak zdroj na takle male zatezi uz mozna nema ucinnost 85+ a druha vec je, ze to je udavana spotreba E-350, ale nejspis se k tomu pricte jeste nejaka periferie na motherboardu. Myslel jsem teda, ze 18W je maximum a ne staly prikon… ale nejspis to budou jen obchodni povidacky.:slight_smile:

1W lze s těmito přistroji rozeznat. Je nutné nechat sestavu pár desítek minut v idle ustálit (nejlépe tak 30-60 min.). Případně lze po ustálení změřit odebranou energii (většina těchto přístrojů umožňuje měřit energii) za např. 1 hodinu v idle a z toho vypočíst příkon. Tipnul bych si, že rozdíl bude víc jak 1 W, např. u Core 2 Duo jsem změřil rozdíl cca 3 W.

600 W zdroj při 26 W většinou zdaleka nedosahuje 85+.

18 W u E-350 je opravdu max TDP včetně grafiky, v idle má méně. Je však třeba připočíst příkon desky, pamětí, periferií, disků, ventilátorů… Tady mohou být poměrně velké rozdíly. Např. měření:
